գիտական ընկերության պատվավոր անդամ, ֆիզիկամաթեմատիկական գիտությունների թեկնածու, խոշոր բիզնեսմեն[2]։ ՀՀ վարչապետ 1996 թվականի դեկտեմբերից մինչև 1997 թվականի փետրվար։ Հայաստանի արտակարգ և լիազոր դեսպան (1993 թվականից)։
2018 թվականի հունվարին գործող նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանի կողմից առաջադրվել է որպես Հայաստանի չորրորդ նախագահի թեկնածու ՀՀԿ-ի կողմից[3]։
2018 թվականի մարտի 2-ին Հայաստանի Խորհրդարանի կողմից ընտրվել է Հայաստանի չորրորդ նախագահ[4]։ Պաշտոնը ստանձնել է նույն թվականի ապրիլի 9-ին։
